The Edo State Police Command has kicked off a week long community partnership event with a sanitation exercise and a free medical outreach in the state capital as part of activities to mark its 2026 National day event.
Addressing Journalists during the exercise on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the initiative aligns with the Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu’s nationwide directive on the “Theme; Community Partnership; Building Trust”, aimed at fostering stronger ties between law enforcement and local communities.
The Commissioner noted that the event’s first day featured police officers undertaking a cleaning exercise, part of Nigeria’s annual Police Day celebrations.
The exercise, according to him aimed to promote a healthier environment and foster stronger ties between the police and the community.
He revealed that a free medical outreach was conducted for the public to identify medical challenges and provide solutions, reflecting that the police is not only providing security obligations but also providing support to the welfare of the people.
Activities have been lined up for the week long event, where Tuesday March 31, captures Walkathon, Wednesday April 1, is Sensitization of Public and Drivers, just as Thursday April 2, is Presentation of Checks to deceased officers’ families and Tuesday April 7, 2026, being Ceremonial Parade and Tactical Display to be held in Abuja
He highlighted the 2025 edition, emphasizing the IGP’s mandate for strong police-community collaboration to build trust.
As of February 24, 2026, Olatunji Rilwan Disu was announced the new acting Inspector General of Police IGP, in Nigeria, but later sworn in as the 23rd substantive Inspector-General of Police on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
This is after he was, however, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
