Residents of Benin City awoke to somber news as police recovered the body of a young boy, believed to be about 12 years old, from the Ikpoba River. The child, yet to be identified, was suspected to have drowned on November 17th, 2025. Officers from the New Benin Division carried out the recovery and transferred the body for autopsy as investigations continue to unravel what truly happened that day.

The heartbreaking discovery has prompted the Edo State Police Command to urge parents and guardians to be more vigilant, especially as the dry season approaches when children often wander off for unsupervised adventures. Families are reminded to keep a closer eye on their children, caution them about water bodies, and ensure they stay in safe company.

Police advise anyone whose child fits the boy’s description and is missing to immediately contact the New Benin Division. The Command emphasizes its dedication to protecting every life and calls for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities or missing persons swiftly.
