CAF Postpones 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The tournament, originally scheduled for March, will now take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

CAF confirmed the change on Thursday, ending weeks of speculation over the event’s schedule. The decision followed consultations with FIFA and other key stakeholders involved in organising the competition.

The tournament had initially been slated to run from March 17 to April 3. According to CAF, the rescheduling ensures the proper organisation and success of Africa’s flagship women’s football competition.

“After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances,” the organisation said.

CAF also reassured fans and participants that preparations were ongoing and expressed confidence that the tournament would meet expectations. “Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 are underway, and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful,” the statement added.

Morocco was awarded hosting rights in October 2024. However, concerns had been rising in recent weeks about the readiness of key aspects of the tournament. Several logistical details, including venues for knockout stages, accreditation for journalists and officials, and promotional activities, were still pending before the original kickoff date.

CAF’s rescheduling gives organisers more time to finalise arrangements and deliver a seamless experience for players, officials, and fans across Africa.
