Osun Election: TICC raises alarm after armed security operatives reportedly surround Speaker Adewale Egbedun’s residence in Osun.
The Osun Election took a tense turn after the Imole Campaign Council (TICC) raised concerns over a heavy security presence at the residence of the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun.
The campaign council said armed security operatives arrived at the Speaker’s residence early on Saturday morning.
According to TICC, the operatives arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and surrounded the premises.
The council also alleged that the security personnel sealed the residence. It said people inside could not leave the premises.
TICC spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi disclosed the development in a statement.
The council stressed that it had not independently confirmed the reason for the security deployment.
It said the operatives could have arrived for security duties or other official reasons. However, TICC said the reported restriction on movement raised concerns on Osun Election day.
The campaign council urged security authorities to explain the deployment immediately.
TICC also said it tried to contact the Commissioner of Police overseeing the Osun Election. According to the council, the publicly available phone number did not receive its calls.
The council said it also called the Deputy Inspector-General of Police responsible for the election. It claimed that those calls also received no response.
TICC further said it tried to reach the Police Situation Room. However, the council claimed that the listed telephone number was switched off.
The council urged security agencies to ensure that the Osun Election remains peaceful and credible.
TICC said voters should not face fear, intimidation, or unnecessary restrictions while exercising their constitutional rights.
The council also called on security authorities to clarify whether the deployment at Egbedun’s residence was part of normal election security operations.
As voting continues across the state, TICC urged authorities to protect voters and respect the electoral process.
The council maintained that the people of Osun State should freely choose their leaders without intimidation or interference during the Osun Election.
