Cristiano Ronaldo hints that the 2026-27 season could be his last, as the football icon plans his next chapter with family and life beyond football.
Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that his long and remarkable career could soon come to an end.
The Portuguese icon says the 2026-27 season may be his final year in professional football.
Cristiano Ronaldo has enjoyed an extraordinary career since making his professional debut in 2002. He began at Sporting Lisbon before earning a move to Manchester United in 2003.
The transfer made Cristiano Ronaldo one of the most exciting young players in Europe.
At Manchester United, he developed into a global superstar. He later joined Real Madrid in a then-world-record transfer worth €94 million.
His time in Spain brought even more success. Cristiano Ronaldo won several major trophies with Real Madrid and became one of the club’s greatest-ever players.
After that, he moved to Juventus in Italy. He later returned to Manchester United in 2021.
However, his second spell at Old Trafford ended sooner than expected. Cristiano Ronaldo eventually joined Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr on January 1, 2023.
His current contract with Al Nassr runs until June 30, 2027. So far, there have been no reports of a new deal.
In a recent interview with Vogue, Cristiano Ronaldo spoke openly about his future.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner admitted that this could be his final season.
“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” Cristiano Ronaldo said.
The football star also explained that he has already thought about life after retirement.
“I have my future all mapped out,” he said.
Cristiano Ronaldo knows that leaving football will create a huge change in his daily life. Therefore, he wants to stay active and enjoy his time outside the sport.
He mentioned several plans for the future. These include travelling, watching and playing padel, and spending more time with his family.
The Portugal captain also reflected on the sacrifices he has made throughout his career.
After more than two decades at the highest level, Cristiano Ronaldo appears ready to consider a different lifestyle.
Cristiano Ronaldo has won almost every major club honour available to him.
He has lifted the Premier League title in England. He has also won La Liga in Spain and Serie A in Italy.
More recently, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated success in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr.
He has also won the UEFA Champions League five times. That achievement places him among the most successful players in the history of the competition.
Individually, Cristiano Ronaldo has collected five Ballon d’Or awards.
However, one major prize has remained out of reach.
The FIFA World Cup is the biggest trophy missing from his collection.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s best World Cup finish came in 2006. Portugal reached the semi-finals before losing to France.
They eventually finished fourth after losing the third-place play-off.
Cristiano Ronaldo has already started thinking about life beyond football.
His recent marriage to Georgina Rodríguez has also added a new chapter to his personal life.
Now, his focus appears to be shifting toward family, travel and other interests.
Still, retirement is not official yet.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains under contract with Al Nassr until 2027. Therefore, fans still have time to enjoy one of football’s most famous stars.
If this is truly his final season, the football world will be watching closely.
After all, Cristiano Ronaldo has spent more than 20 years creating a legacy that will be difficult to match.
