Benin City Horror: Police Inspector, Accomplices Arrested for Armed Robbery and Extortion Spree

In a stunning turn of events, the Edo State Police Command has apprehended a serving police inspector and three civilian collaborators accused of orchestrating a wave of armed robbery, extortion, and brutality against innocent residents in Benin City.

The arrests followed a viral video that sent shockwaves across social media, in which a victim recounted a harrowing ordeal of abduction, intimidation, and theft at the hands of men posing as law enforcement officers.

The disturbing footage prompted immediate action from the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, who ordered an intensive investigation to track down the culprits.

On August 15th, 2025, operatives from the Ugbowo Surveillance Team intercepted a silver Toyota Yaris linked to the suspects. Inside were incriminating items and four individuals Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi, a serving officer, and three civilians: Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho.

Investigators say this group had been operating together, using the authority of the uniform to harass, rob, and intimidate residents across the city.

The Edo State Police Command has condemned the actions in the strongest terms, vowing to ensure all four suspects face justice without delay. Commissioner Agbonika reaffirmed the Force’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, warning that any officer caught engaging in misconduct will be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted.

Authorities are urging the public especially the victim seen in the viral footage to step forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

As the Command moves to clean house and rebuild public confidence, it has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and restoring trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
