COURT SENTENCES KANO CLERIC TO DEATH, SAYS I WILL DIE A HERO A popular cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru-Kabara has been convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy by a Kano Upper Sharia Court.   Nasiru-Kabara was charged over alleged blasphemous comments made on August 10th, October 25th, and December 20th, 2019.

Before pronouncing the sentence on thursday December 15th, the presiding Kadi, Ibrahim Sarki Yola asked if the convict had anything to say.

Subsequently, Aminu Abubakar, who appeared as the Defence Counsel, asked the Court to be lenient with the accused, that he acted he ignorance.

However, the Cleric interjected and denied knowing the lawyer stating, “I don’t know him. This is the first time I’ve am seeing him. He should not be allowed to speak on my behalf. I can and should be allowed to speak for myself.”

He further stated that, the Judge twisted his evidence and turned his submissions upside down.

He said, “deliver your judgement, I am not asking for leniency at all. I want all my followers to know that I will die a hero and I don’t want you (the Judge) Ibrahim Sarki Yola to do me any favour or grant me any leniency. This is my last word. Assalamu Alaikum.”

The convict was therefore sentence to death by hanging.
