There is wide disquiet in the Delta state chapter of the All Progressive Congress APC following rumours of sinister moves by the state chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie to force aspirants to step down for those who might have greased his palm against popular interests of the party.

Coastreporter gathered that many stakeholders of the party are miffed by Sobotie’s lust for money 

Coastreporters also gathered from our inside sources within the state secretariat that Chairman is presently in fix as to how to pull the deals through having collected huge sums of money from mostly unpopular aspirants but is presently facing resistance from the people who are determined to elect only popular aspirants in the primaries.

According to the source, Coastreporters.com was informed that in a bid to fulfill his part of the deal, Sobotie and his cronies have been working day and night trying to manipulate the delegate lists by removing known loyalists of those he swore to stop and replacing them with those of his payers.

This is said to also be the reason the party is refusing to make open the list of delegates to the aspirants less than 12 hours to the elections thereby putting aspirants in the dark which many of them say is against the dictates of the electoral Act.

However, the source said the state chairman is working hand in hand with the Delta North Senatorial Chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka who is desperate on using his office to impose his son as the candidate of Oshimli South Constituency despite the unpopular toga on his son. The story is said to be same in Isoko North constituency and the Delta South Senatorial district tickets while in Delta Central, one of the leading aspirants for the Ughelli South Constituency, Mr. Koyoyo issued a statement alleging manipulation of the lists before announcing his withdrawal from the race.

Meanwhile, relying on the electoral Act 2022, many aspirants across the state have vowed to pursue their aspirations to the logical end although information from the party secretariat indicates that some aspirants are already withdrawing from the race due to pressure and threats from Sobotie.

With all these, many observers are wondering if APC Delta is jinxed that it will always have a a way of destroying its own chances every election despite the huge opportunities thrown at it by the PDP.
