Lagos-Igbide community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State was the scene of a highly talked-about event on Sunday, August 15, 2021, as 33-year-old Akpove Blessing made headlines by officially marrying his two wives in a colourful ceremony that has set tongues wagging.
The event, held at Late Ekpe Hitler’s Compound, opposite Ugala Filling Station, drew scores of curious guests and well-wishers, some of whom reportedly left church services early to witness what many described as a “once-in-a-lifetime” occasion.
Akpove, whose wedding poster recently went viral on social media, proudly declared that love and personal happiness—not wealth motivated his decision to wed two women at once. “I may not be rich,” he said, “but I believe men should marry more wives to enjoy life. When one is not in the mood, the other could be.”
The groom explained that although both women had already borne him six children four boys and two girls—the ceremony marked the official payment of their bride prices, solidifying their union in the eyes of tradition and community.
Decked in traditional attire, with music, dancing, and cultural performances setting the tone, the celebration became the talk of the town, further cementing Akpove’s status as a bold, unconventional figure in the community.
Speaking to guests, Akpove encouraged other men to consider polygamy not out of wealth, but, in his words, “for the joy and variety it brings to family life.”
While the ceremony has sparked mixed reactions online and within local circles, one thing is clear: Akpove’s dual wedding has left an unforgettable mark on Lagos-Igbide and beyond.
