Edo Assembly resumes plenary receives list of Commissioner-nominees.‎


‎…Sets up Adhoc Committee to Monitor ongoing Infrastructural projects in Edo state.

‎After two weeks of recess for completion of Pending Committee Assignments, the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday resumed plenary.

‎On resumption, the house received two correspondence from the state Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo with a request for the Screening and clearing of Eight Commissioner-nominees, which includes the Barr Nosa Adams, Yakubu Musa, Dr Felix Akhabue, and Engr Omorodion Ikponwosa.
‎Others are Ohimai Ehigimetor, Eugenia Abdallah, Godwin Eshieshi, and Kassim Afegbua.

‎The correspondence was read by Clerk of the House Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai; thereafter, the Speaker, Rt Hon Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, referred it to the Committee on Rules, Business and Government House to report back to the House as soon as possible.

‎Also at Plenary, the Speaker, under other announcements, congratulated the APC and the Senator-elect Hon Joe Ikpea and House of Representatives member-elect Hon Omosede Igbinedion for the victory at the polls over the weekend.

‎He commended the people of the seven local government areas in which the elections were held for believing in the APC.

‎Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku also disclosed that given the need for the executive and Legislature to work in synergy for the positive growth and development of the state, the House has set up an ad hoc committee to monitor all ongoing projects as part of its oversight functions.

‎The Adhoc committee is to be chaired by Hon Adeh Isibor Emakhu, member representing Esan North East 1, other members of the Committee are Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu, Esan West, Rt. Hon Osamwoyi Atu, Orhionmwon 1, Hon Richard Edosa Osaro, Oredo West, Hon Bright Iyamu Orhionmwon 11, Hon Kingsley Ugabi Etsako East, and Rt Hon Yekini Idaiye Akoko-Edo 1.

‎The Committee is to report back to the House. The House has cleared the Chairman Nominee for Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Rt Hon Kabiru Adjoto, after the Presentation and consideration of the report of the Committee on Rules and Business.

‎As a Former Parliamentarian and Speaker, he was told to take a bow.

‎Similarly, the House at second reading considered the Bill for a law to repeal the Customary Court of Appeal Law 2015 and re-establish the Customary Court of Appeal, Edo State, and for other Matters Connected Therewith.


‎Flagging off debate, Majority Leader of the House, Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu disclosed that the Bill would enhance the justice system, especially at the grassroots level, where issues relating to communities would be referred, as well as uphold and sustain the Judiciary at the customary level.

‎In the same vein, the Minority Leader, Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian, former Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Marie Edeko, Deputy Governor, Majority Leader, Hon Adeh Isibor, and Hon Eugene Inegbeboh were of the view that the Bill couldn’t have come at a better time, as it would enhance the dispensation of justice.

‎The Speaker thereafter committed the bill to the Committee on Judiciary for fine-tuning.

‎The House thereafter adjourned sitting to Tuesday, 19th August, after an adjournment motion moved by the Member representing Akoko-Edo 1, Rt Hon Yekini Idaiye, and seconded by the member representing Ikpoba-Okha, Hon Nicholas Asonsere.
