Edo at 34: Governor Okpebholo Honors Founding Fathers, Rallies Citizens for a United and Prosperous Future

Edo State marked a significant milestone today as it celebrated 34 years since its creation. In a heartfelt message to the people of Edo, Governor Monday Okpebholo extended his warm congratulations to citizens both at home and across the globe, urging unity and a renewed commitment to the collective progress of the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo reflected on the journey that began on August 27, 1991, when Edo State was carved out as a distinct entity. He paid tribute to the founding fathers and past leaders whose foresight and sacrifices laid the foundation for the achievements being celebrated today.

“Today, we celebrate more than just the passage of time. We celebrate resilience, culture, identity, and progress,” the Governor said. “This is a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, to acknowledge our achievements, and to recommit ourselves to building the Edo of our dreams.”

Governor Okpebholo highlighted the progress the state has recorded over the past three decades across critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic growth. He acknowledged that while the journey has not been without challenges, the unwavering spirit of the Edo people has remained the driving force behind its continued advancement.

From the historical legacy of the ancient Benin Kingdom to modern strides in governance and development, the Governor noted that Edo State stands tall as a symbol of cultural pride and potential.

Using the occasion to emphasize the importance of unity, Governor Okpebholo called on all Edo residents regardless of ethnic background or political affiliation to come together for the greater good of the state.

“The future we all desire for Edo is only possible when we work together,” he stated. “Let us put aside our differences and focus on the values and goals that bind us. Together, we can achieve more.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating jobs, enhancing security, and promoting sustainable development, promising to remain accountable and people-focused in all government actions.

“As we celebrate this 34th anniversary, let us rekindle our hope and belief in a brighter tomorrow. With unity, determination, and God’s guidance, Edo’s best days lie ahead,” Governor Okpebholo affirmed.

As the state reflects on its past and looks forward to the future, today’s anniversary serves as both a celebration and a call to action for every Edo son and daughter to play their part in shaping the next chapter of the state’s journey.
