Edo State, NNPC Set to Power New Era with 10,000 BPD Condensate Refinery

Edo State is poised to take a major leap in its industrial journey as the Edo State Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited move forward with plans to establish a 10,000 barrels-per-day condensate refinery in the state. The refinery, expected to be completed within 24 to 36 months, will be sited across Oredo and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas, marking one of the most significant energy investments in the region.

Once operational, the facility will produce an estimated 20 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 10 truckloads of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) daily, supplying Edo State and surrounding areas while easing fuel distribution challenges.

Governor Monday Okpebholo confirmed the state’s readiness to support the project while receiving NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Downstream, Alhaji Mumuni Dagazia, and his management team during a courtesy visit to Government House. He described the refinery as a practical expression of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that it aligns strongly with Edo State’s drive for economic growth and industrial expansion.

According to the governor, the project will create employment opportunities, reduce poverty, and strengthen the state’s industrial base. He assured NNPC of his administration’s full backing, pledging the provision of land, Certificates of Occupancy, security, and all necessary logistics to ensure smooth execution. He emphasized that Edo State remains safe and open for business, with strong political will behind investments that advance development.

Alhaji Dagazia described the refinery as a sustainable venture designed to go beyond revenue generation, adding that it would stimulate job creation, industrial growth, and long-term development for the state. He noted that the partnership reflects NNPC’s commitment to supporting sub-national governments in building a resilient energy sector.

Also speaking, NNPC’s Chief Downstream Investment Officer, Mr. Ikedichi Dick-Nwoke, said the refinery would position Edo State as a key energy and industrial hub in the South-South region. He added that the project would boost investor confidence, complement the state government’s industrialization agenda, and significantly expand employment opportunities for residents.

With strong collaboration between Edo State and NNPC, the proposed refinery is set to redefine the state’s economic landscape and place it firmly on Nigeria’s energy and industrial map.
