Falode congratulates Bayelsa Queens for historic Aiteo Cup victory

The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode, has congratulated Bayelsa Queens FC of Yenagoa for their historic victory of the Aiteo Cup title at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.

Falode, commended the Queens for their doggedness and fantastic come back to reckoning after failing to impress at the NWFL Premiership Super Six at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, despite going into the competition as league leaders.

She noted: “The greatest attribute of a true champion is to bounce back when the stakes are high. It was clear that, the technical crew and management of Bayelsa Queens know the importance of winning of top notch competitions.

“It was obvious Coach Moses Aduku and his girls went back to their training camp even after the league season to prepare to win the Aiteo Cup, and their hard work paid off. I congratulate the team for making history as first time Aiteo Cup winners thus adding to the club’s attribute as multiple league champions.”

The NFF board member and Director of Organisation for the Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament, also commended Aiteo Cup finalist, FC Robo Queens of Lagos for emerging first runners up after showing class at the 2020/2021 NWFL Premiership Super Six,  the competition they qualified for the first time.

“It was also FC Robo’s first time coming this far as Aiteo Cup finalist. These are clear indications that in the next few years, the status of the club will change to that of multiple Champions.

“I want to personally give special commendations to the Chief Coach and owner of FC Robo, Emmanuel Osahon, for his hard work and uniqueness in forging ahead as a true club owner. It has not been easy, but despite that, Osahon has been very consistent taking the club to greater heights. The 2020/2021 season remains the best for FC Robo. I wish them greater exploits in the future.”

The NWFL boss applauded the two teams for showcasing the women’s football revolution attained at the Super Six in Ijebu Ode, with their excellent display of soccer artistry in the Aiteo Cup final, which reflected the massive development in the women’s league in the last few years.

Bayelsa Queens’  Mary Anjor who scored 8 goals in the Aiteo Cup was voted the Highest Goal Scorer and Most Valuable Player of the competition.

Bayelsa Queens went home with N10million winners prize money, while FC Robo got N5 million as First Runners Up.
