The Nigerian Army has bolstered its ranks with the formal induction of 3,439 newly trained soldiers, as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (NAM), called on the fresh recruits to embody loyalty, discipline, and professionalism in the service of the nation.

The soldiers, drawn from the 89 Regular Intake, completed six months of rigorous military training at Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, and were officially commissioned during a colourful Passing Out Parade. The ceremony reflected months of intense physical, mental, and tactical preparation, marking the recruits’ transformation into full-fledged members of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour and Reviewing Officer, Lieutenant General Shaibu praised the recruits for their resilience and commitment, describing their graduation as a clear demonstration of perseverance and discipline. He emphasized that their entry into the Army comes at a critical time, as the service continues to respond to evolving security challenges across the country.

He reminded the new soldiers that they now bear the solemn responsibility of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting its citizens, urging them to serve with courage, honour, and unwavering dedication. According to him, their induction not only strengthens the Army’s manpower but also reinforces its readiness to confront both domestic and transnational threats.

The Army Chief also acknowledged the historic role of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, noting its legacy of shaping professional soldiers since 1924. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to sustaining the institution through continued support for training, logistics, and personnel welfare.

Urging the recruits to remain disciplined and uphold integrity in all assignments, Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed respect for human rights and obedience to constituted authority as essential pillars of military professionalism. He reminded them that the oath they swore binds them to both civil and military laws and to conduct that reflects positively on the Nigerian Army and the nation.

The COAS expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, traditional and political leaders, and sister security agencies for their continued support. He also commended the Commandant, instructors, and staff of the Depot for their dedication in producing capable and professional soldiers.

He concluded by congratulating the new soldiers and their families, wishing them fulfilling careers marked by honourable service and safe deployments in defence of Nigeria.
