Healing Beyond the Skies: Nigerian Air Force Brings Life-Changing Care to Over 11,000 in Imo State

In a powerful show of compassion and service, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in collaboration with Nwagwu’s Health Initiative, has completed a large-scale medical outreach that brought hope, healing, and dignity to thousands in Mbaise and surrounding communities of Imo State.

Over the course of August 2025, the outreach reached more than 11,000 people, offering vital healthcare services including 846 free surgeries across various specializations. From thyroidectomies and gynecological procedures to general and eye surgeries, patients from all walks of life were given a second chance at health. The initiative also provided more than 11,000 consultations and distributed over 1,300 eyeglasses, walking aids, and crutches to people living with disabilities.

Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, described the initiative as a cornerstone of NAF’s commitment to the well-being of Nigerians, especially in underserved regions. He emphasized the role of such humanitarian efforts in building stronger ties between the military and civilians, stating that the outreach reflects NAF’s deep-rooted philosophy of putting people first.

Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, Chief of Civil-Military Relations, echoed this sentiment, noting that every life transformed through the programme represents a step toward a more unified and compassionate Nigeria. Meanwhile, Project Coordinator Air Vice Marshal Uche Nwagwu praised the successful synergy between military personnel and community stakeholders, pointing to their collaboration as the driving force behind the initiative’s impact.

As the final surgeries were completed and the last patients attended to, the NAF once again proved that its mission extends far beyond national defense touching lives, restoring dignity, and uniting communities under the banner of service and care.
