HONOURING A HERO: BRIGADIER GENERAL ABU ALI LAID TO REST IN A MOVING MILITARY CEREMONY

Brigadier General Abu Ali (Rtd), former Military Administrator of Bauchi State and esteemed Etsu Bassa-Nge, was laid to rest in Gboloko, Kogi State, as the Nigerian Army, government officials, and the entire Bassa-Nge Kingdom gathered to bid farewell to a man whose life was defined by service, honour, and unshakable patriotism.

At the solemn ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, paid glowing tribute to the late officer, describing him as a shining example of military ethics and professionalism whose legacy would continue to guide generations of soldiers. His sentiments were echoed by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, represented by Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who praised the late traditional ruler for fostering unity, development, and peace among his people.

A detailed funeral oration reflected on Brigadier General Abu Ali’s remarkable journey from his birth in 1945 in Gboloko to his enlistment in the Nigerian Army in 1963, his distinguished rise through the ranks, and his retirement in 1999. His career spanned numerous high-level command and staff roles, including his tenure as Military Administrator of Bauchi State and his respected leadership as Etsu Bassa-Nge. He was celebrated for his integrity, patriotism, and deep commitment to community and national service.

His professional development took him across the world, with advanced military training in the United Kingdom, Pakistan, India, and the United States. Known for discipline and outstanding leadership, he excelled in every position he held. from Squadron Commander to Director of Training and Commander of an ECOWAS Brigade. His influence extended beyond the barracks, shaping youth development, strengthening community bonds, and promoting education.

Brigadier General Abu Ali’s legacy is intertwined with that of his son, the late Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali, one of Nigeria’s most decorated fallen heroes. Together, they represent a lineage defined by courage, sacrifice, and devotion to the nation.

The burial was attended by senior military officers, traditional leaders, government officials, and dignitaries. As prayers were said and military honours performed including the lowering of the national flag and the symbolic presentation of national colours the atmosphere was one of deep respect and collective mourning.

The Nigerian Army extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Bassa-Nge Kingdom, and all Nigerians grieving the loss. Brigadier General Abu Ali leaves behind a legacy of duty, leadership, and unwavering loyalty, a legacy that will continue to inspire long after his passing.
