Lagos cricket tournament grinds to exciting finals: Report By Nosa Igunma

Lagos State hub of Nigeria Cricket has  missed competitivee cricket action since March 2020 due to the global pandemic COVID-19.

To this end, the Lagos State Cricket Association under the chairmanship of Kofi Sagoe set out the Lagos T20 Knock-out Tournament as  preseason competition with 11 teams.

The T20 cricket competition started 14th of August 2021, taking advantage of the ‘August break’ with a round robin.  The next level was two group stage with 8 teams where 4 teams qualify for the semi-finals.

The semifinals teams included Pioneers, Foundation, Ibeju and Lagos Asians Cricket Club.

This Saturday, 28th August 2021, Pioneers CC will play the first semifinal match against Foundation CC. The second game will see Ibeju CC file out against Lagos Asian CC. The finale of the T20 Lagos tournament will hole on Sunday, August 29th at the TBS.

“Lagos has traditionally been the home of cricket in Nigeria and continue to maintain foremost position even till now.

“We’re happy to see the resurgence of squads particularly Edo, and Kaduna. Those two states are worthy of mention. It’s heartwarming to note that the keenness of the competition and rivalry will ultimately improve the skills level all-round to the states and for Nigeria as a whole.” Mr Kofi Sagoe said.

The Lagos cricket chairman also emphasised the state will not easily give up its leadership position in the Nigeria cricket game.

Meanwhile, information from the Lagos Cricket Club Committee responsible for state ICC recognized need used league season will commence in November to April 2022 with a new team Titans Cricket Club.

Titans CC is another Asian team to make 18 cricket teams that are expected to play in either division 1 and division 2 of the Lagos cricket league.
