Okpebholo Boosts Security Presence in Edo Central with New Patrol Vehicles, Welfare Reforms

Determined to restore peace and strengthen internal security across Edo Central Senatorial District, Governor Monday Okpebholo has taken decisive action by deploying ten brand new patrol vehicles to security agencies operating in the area. The move underscores his administration’s firm resolve to confront crime head-on and ensure the safety of residents.

The presentation, which took place in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, drew traditional rulers from across Esanland, security chiefs, political leaders and community representatives. It also formed part of the governor’s wider engagement with security stakeholders, aimed at deepening collaboration, understanding on-the-ground realities and delivering practical solutions tailored to local needs.

Governor Okpebholo described the intervention as a deliberate and strategic response to security challenges, stressing that effective policing requires both adequate tools and motivated personnel. He emphasized that development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Beyond the vehicles, the governor announced significant welfare reforms for security operatives. He directed that members of community-based security groups be properly profiled and enlisted for regular remuneration, a move expected to professionalise operations and boost morale across all 18 local government areas of the state. He also revealed that 2,500 newly trained security corps members would be integrated with existing personnel and evenly deployed to strengthen grassroots security.

During an interactive session, security representatives from across Edo Central spoke candidly about the challenges they face, including limited logistics, equipment shortages, intelligence gaps and emerging security threats. The dialogue provided a platform for direct feedback and reinforced the government’s commitment to responsive leadership.

The Director of Operations of the Edo State Security Corps, Mr. Richard Balogun, announced that the long-awaited approval of salaries for operatives had been granted, bringing relief to personnel who operate daily in high-risk conditions. He praised the government’s renewed focus on both operational capacity and staff welfare.

Political and community leaders also lent their voices to the initiative. Retired Major General Cecil Esekhaigbe, Edo Central APC Senatorial Leader, called for sustained support for security agencies and urged traditional institutions and communities to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their environments.

Traditional rulers, led by the Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm Aidenojie II, commended Governor Okpebholo’s hands-on approach, describing it as inclusive and solution-oriented. He revealed plans by Esan leaders at home and abroad to establish an Esan Security Trust Fund, aimed at providing additional support for security operations in the district.

With renewed equipment, improved welfare and stronger community involvement, the Edo Central security landscape is set for a significant transformation—one that promises greater peace, confidence and stability for the people.
