Okpebholo Praises Diligent Road Contractors, Warns Against Delays in Edo Projects

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has applauded road contractors delivering quality work across the Edo South Senatorial District, while issuing a stern warning to those falling behind schedule to improve performance or face contract revocation.

The governor gave the commendation during an inspection tour of ongoing road construction projects, undertaken to assess progress and ensure value for public funds. According to him, the exercise was aimed at distinguishing committed contractors from those failing to meet agreed specifications and timelines.

Governor Okpebholo expressed displeasure at the pace and quality of work at some sites, particularly along Church Road and Upper Ekenwan Road, where he said contractors had failed to meet expectations. He warned that any firm that does not correct identified lapses before the next inspection risks losing its contract.

Despite the concerns raised at certain locations, the governor praised contractors at other sites for their professionalism and dedication. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work being carried out in Ogheghe and along Sapele Road, describing the projects as impressive and well executed.

Emphasising the urgency of timely completion, Governor Okpebholo noted that his administration would not tolerate unnecessary delays, especially with the rainy season approaching. He stressed that road infrastructure remains a core priority and assured residents that projects would be closely monitored, including during weekends, to ensure steady progress.

The governor linked the road projects to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, stating that visible infrastructure development is a key way to rebuild public trust in governance. He said well-constructed roads serve as tangible proof that the government is fulfilling its promises to the people.

The projects inspected during the tour include the 1.4-kilometre Charismatic (Church) Road off Ekhenwa Road, handled by Place of Peace Investment Limited; the Old Sapele Road linking Agip, Ohogbohi and Ogheghe communities, executed by Rawtech Nigeria Limited; Ogheghe Road off Sapele Road, handled by BRASS Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited; and the Sapele Road Bypass.

Residents of the affected communities turned out in large numbers to welcome the governor, commending him for what they described as visible and impactful development across the area.

Governor Okpebholo was accompanied on the inspection by senior government officials, including the APC Deputy Chairman in Edo State, Sylvester Aigbobor, alongside other top government functionaries.
