Rumours of a possible separation between popular Nigerian singers Simi and Adekunle Gold have been dismissed after a document circulating on social media claimed the couple had filed for divorce.
The speculation began when an alleged divorce petition surfaced online, purportedly filed by Adekunle Gold at the High Court of Lagos State. The document, dated February 28, 2026, suggested that the marriage between the two musicians had broken down and cited issues including emotional, financial and professional control.
The paper also claimed that the court had been asked to dissolve the marriage and determine joint custody arrangements for their child.
However, Simi’s manager, Vincent, has strongly rejected the claims, describing the document as fake and fabricated.
According to him, several inconsistencies in the paperwork make it clear that it did not originate from a legitimate legal process.
He noted that one of the most obvious red flags was the use of the artists’ stage names in the supposed court filing. Vincent explained that stage names are typically not accepted in official legal documents, which usually require individuals to be identified by their legal names.
He also pointed out another discrepancy in the document’s suit number, which appeared to reference the year 2024, despite the petition allegedly being filed in 2026.
“It’s fake and fabricated. First, stage names are not tenable in any court of justice worldwide as indicated in the document. Even the suit number on the document is backdated to 2024,” he said.
The rumours quickly gained traction online due to the couple’s popularity and long-standing relationship in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Simi and Adekunle Gold began their journey as friends and musical collaborators before eventually making their romantic relationship public. Their love story captured fans’ attention, culminating in a private wedding ceremony in January 2019.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Adejare, popularly known as Deja, in 2020.
Despite the viral claims circulating online, Simi’s management insists there is no truth to the divorce story and has urged the public to disregard the document spreading across social media.
