Standing for Equality: Anani Strengthens Commitment to Women and Girl Child Advocacy



‎The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has reiterated her commitment to advancing women and girl-child’s rights and welfare as part of efforts aimed at addressing their challenges in the State

‎Mrs. Anani who made the pledge during an engagement with the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Edo State Chapter at the Government House in Benin City, commended the Group for being a vital partner with Government in championing the rights, welfare and empowerment of women across the State. She also appreciated its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by women by amplifying their voices and advancing their status in society.

‎She reiterated the administration’s commitment to serving all residents, regardless of party affiliation or voting history, assuring that the administration would provide basic needs and ensure that the everyone benefits from the dividends of good governance, which prioritizes the well-being of all residents, indigenes and non-indigenes alike.

‎”The Governor is for everybody, not just a particular party. We’ve made it clear that our governance will cater to the needs of all citizens, regardless who they voted for. Our focus is on providing basic needs and ensuring everyone enjoys the dividends of democracy, whether they’re indigenes or non-indigenes”. She stated.

‎Emphasizing the need to tackle “Period poverty”, Mrs. Anani announced plans to launch a sanitary pad bank for rural girls, underscoring the significance of menstrual hygiene for overall well-being. She referenced the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu’s pledge to supply 10,000 cartons of sanitary pads, saying that a statewide distribution to school girls is planned upon the pads’ arrival.

‎Earlier, the Leader of the delegation and State Chairperson of National Council of Women Societies, Hon. Inumidun Idehen, commended Mrs. Anani for her dedication to the welfare and progress of women in Edo State, noting that Mrs. Anani’s leadership and vision had inspired countless women to strive for excellence. She stated that NCWS, as the umbrella Organization for women’s groups in Nigeria, shared objectives that align with the goals of the Office of the Edo State First Lady, underscoring the need for meaningful collaborations.

‎In her words, “We recognize and commend your efforts in empowering women and promoting their development. Our Organization’s core focus areas include education, vocational skills development, economic empowerment and social welfare initiatives”.

‎She concluded by soliciting collaboration with the Office of the Edo State First Lady in the area of security during their outreach programmes and a bus to cater for transportation needs.
