Supreme Court Dismisses Jegede’s Petition Against Governor Akeredolu’s Election.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the appeal filed by Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, challenging the election of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.

Justice Theresa Orji-Abadua who led panel of the appellate court dismissed their case which it said only succeeded in part.

Meanwhile, four of the justices of the apex court upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal and the Ondo State Governorship Election Petition.

The apex court thereby dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.

Justices Mary Odili, Tijjani Abubakar, and Ejembi Eko, held that the appeal should be allowed in dissenting judgment.

Jegede had challenged the emergence of Akeredolu as the winner of the governorship election of October 10, 2020.
