A devastating incident has shaken the Nigerian Army, as a soldier, Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi, allegedly killed his wife and then took his own life at the Corporals and Below Quarters in Wawa Cantonment, Niger State. The incident occurred on October 11, leaving residents in a state of shock.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, Captain Stephen Nwankwo, disclosed this in a statement, revealing that the soldier had sought permission from his superior before the lifeless bodies were discovered. The remains have been preserved, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier-General Ezra Barkins, has assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and findings will be made public. The Nigerian Army has expressed regret over the incident and commiserated with the families of the deceased, assuring that necessary measures will be taken to prevent future occurrences.
