Police Spokesman Hundeyin to Vacate Office Today as Nigeria Police Prepares New Appointment

The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Benjamin Hundeyin, is expected to vacate his position in Abuja today, Friday, March 6, 2026, according to sources within the police headquarters.

Insiders revealed that a senior police officer has already been selected to take over the role, although the identity of the replacement had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report. The development signals an imminent leadership change in the communication arm of the Nigeria Police Force.

Sources familiar with the situation said Hundeyin had already been informed of the decision and had begun making arrangements to formally hand over the office. Despite the transition plans, the police spokesman was still carrying out his official responsibilities as of about 8 p.m. on Thursday.

An official announcement confirming the change is expected to be made on Friday from the office of the Inspector-General of Police.

Hundeyin was appointed Force Public Relations Officer in September 2025 while serving as a Chief Superintendent of Police. His appointment followed the promotion of his predecessor, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Before his elevation to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Hundeyin served as the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command. During that period, he gained national recognition for his proactive communication style and consistent engagement with the media.

Security observers say his tenure as police spokesman was notable for a more visible and responsive communication strategy. Through regular updates and an active presence on digital platforms, Hundeyin played a key role in strengthening the Nigeria Police Force’s public engagement and improving transparency in police operations.

Hundeyin holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. His academic background and communication style helped shape his approach to modern police-public relations.

With his departure expected to take effect today, attention has now shifted to the yet-to-be-announced officer who will assume the influential role of spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force.
