A heartbreaking incident has left many in shock after a married woman identified as Joy was found dead in a hotel room in Lagos, in what authorities believe was a violent encounter with a man she had been communicating with online.

Joy, a 30-year-old mother of two, had reportedly been in contact with the man for some time through social media. According to accounts from people close to the family, the man presented himself as a wealthy businessman and promised to help improve her life, even telling her he could take her abroad and support her children.

Investigations later suggested that Joy had not revealed to the man that she was married, leading him to believe she was a single mother facing financial struggles. Over time, the relationship between them grew closer through online conversations and secret meetings.

Her husband later said he had begun noticing changes in her behaviour. He described her as becoming more withdrawn and protective of her phone. On two occasions, he reportedly questioned suspicious messages he saw, but Joy dismissed them, explaining they were from a customer related to her small business.

On the day of the incident, Joy told her husband she was going to visit a friend. Instead, she allegedly went to meet the man at a hotel. Reports say the man had asked her to come with their baby, claiming he wanted to help buy items for the child.

What happened afterward turned tragic. Joy was later discovered dead in the hotel room, reportedly strangled after consuming alcohol. The man she had gone to meet was nowhere to be found, and the baby she brought with her was also missing.

Hotel staff who discovered the body alerted authorities, and the news was later broken to Joy’s husband, who was left devastated by the loss of his wife and the disappearance of their child.
