Court admits more exhibits against Emefiele in the alleged unlawful naira redesign case as EFCC tenders newspaper reports in Abuja court.

Justice Maryanne Anineh of the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday admitted more exhibits in the trial of former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is prosecuting Emefiele over the alleged unlawful redesign of the naira.

During the hearing, the prosecution presented several newspaper publications as evidence in court.

The prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, led the eighth prosecution witness, Jegede Oluwasegun, to testify before the court.

Oluwasegun works with the National Library of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Oyedepo submitted certified copies of newspapers, including The Punch, ThisDay, Vanguard, Daily Sun and The Nation.

The reports focused on the alleged unlawful naira redesign. In addition, the prosecution submitted payment receipts for the newspapers.

According to Oyedepo, the prosecution presented the documents in response to a request from the defence team.

The defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, had earlier filed a motion asking the prosecution to provide newspaper publications and press reports linked to the case.

However, the defence did not object when the prosecution tendered the documents in court.

During cross-examination, Oluwasegun explained his role at the National Library.

He said he attends to readers and certifies newspaper documents. However, he clarified that he did not write the reports.

He also said he could not speak on the content of the publications because his duty only involves certification.

Meanwhile, the EFCC continues to prosecute Emefiele on a four-count charge linked to the alleged unlawful printing of new naira notes.
