The Baba Ijesha Chieftaincy Title has attracted public attention after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, honoured the Nollywood actor with a royal title, luxurious gifts, and a brand-new car.
Baba Ijesha, whose real name is Olanrewaju Omiyinka, shared the news on his Facebook page.
He also posted photos of himself and his wife, Abiodun Folashade Tokunbo, kneeling before the monarch at the palace in Ile-Ife.
According to the actor, the royal family gave them a warm welcome.
During the visit, the Ooni conferred the Baba Ijesha Chieftaincy Title, “Baba Awada Konge Oduwa,” on the actor. The title means “Father of Comedy Meets Oduduwa.”
Furthermore, Baba Ijesha thanked the monarch for the honour and the generous gifts.
He said he felt deeply grateful for the warm reception and the confidence the traditional ruler showed in him and his wife.
“My deepest gratitude to His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife. Baba, thank you for the royal welcome, fatherly love, and the confidence you gave my wife, Afolashade Omiyinka, and me.
“For the luxurious gifts you blessed us with, and the brand-new car, I am truly humbled.
“As a son of the soil, I am also honoured by the Baba Ijesha Chieftaincy Title, Baba Awada Konge Oduwa Ile Ife, Ile Oodua!”
Meanwhile, the palace visit came months after Baba Ijesha regained his freedom from prison in November 2025.
A Lagos High Court convicted the actor in 2022 of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.
Initially, the court sentenced him to 16 years in prison.
However, the sentences ran at the same time. As a result, he spent about five years behind bars before his release.
The Baba Ijesha Chieftaincy Title has generated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians discussing the honour and the actor’s return to public life.
