The Nigerian Army has responded to the Army Rape Allegation involving students of Osun State University. It said no formal complaint or credible evidence has been submitted to support the claims
The Headquarters, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, made the statement on Friday. The response followed reports circulating on social media about alleged misconduct by some soldiers.
According to the Army, a Board of Inquiry is already investigating the incident. The panel is examining all allegations involving recently passed-out personnel.
Furthermore, the Army said it remains committed to a fair, transparent, and thorough investigation.
“The Board of Inquiry will leave no stone unturned. Any personnel found guilty will face the law. The Nigerian Army remains professional and does not tolerate indiscipline,” the statement said.
Army Rape Allegation Yet to Be Backed by Evidence
The Army said social media users linked the Army Rape Allegation to comments reportedly made by the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University.
However, it said no alleged victim, witness, or university official has submitted a formal complaint.
The Army also said it has not received any medical report or other credible evidence.
“At this time, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo has not received any formal complaint, medical report, or credible evidence from any alleged victim, witness, or the university management,” the statement said.
As a result, the Army described the Army Rape Allegation as unconfirmed.
It also warned that spreading unverified claims could mislead the public and affect the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Army urged anyone with useful information to cooperate with the Board of Inquiry.
It asked witnesses and victims to submit evidence directly and confidentially at the Headquarters, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, or through the Army Public Relations Office.
According to the statement, the Army will protect the identity and safety of anyone who comes forward.
“This is the only credible path to identifying and prosecuting the culprits if they exist,” it added.
In addition, the Army appealed to journalists, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Osun State University management, and the public to avoid sharing unverified reports.
It warned that false information could create panic and make the investigation more difficult.
Finally, the Army reaffirmed its commitment to civil-military relations, the protection of students, and respect for human rights.
It also promised to keep the public informed as the investigation continues into the Army Rape Allegation.
