Okpebholo power generation plan at Ologbo attracting investors and jobs. Edo State is moving into a new phase of industrial and economic growth under Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The administration is building an investment-friendly environment. It focuses on security, infrastructure and reliable electricity supply.

At Ologbo in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, the ongoing 100-megawatt power project and industrial park developed by CCETC stand at the centre of this strategy.

The project was formally launched in February 2026. It includes a 100MW natural-gas-powered electricity generation facility and an industrial park.

Because the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation sees clear benefits, it described the development as a boost for manufacturing, employment and sustainable growth. In addition, the state government presents it as a major step toward energy security and industrial expansion.

Project Coordinator Jiang Fan of CCETC said the company is working closely with the state government. Significant progress has already been recorded.

“I am in charge of this project and this is our 100 megawatts of power generation and also an industrial park,” Fan said.

Most of the generating equipment has arrived. Installation is substantially advanced. Because the technology uses natural gas, individual units are rated at 2.3MW, while the overall target remains 100MW.

About 90 per cent of the foundation work is complete. Roughly half of the overall work plan has been accomplished. Moreover, the project has secured the necessary generation and distribution licences. As a result, the remaining work is mainly final preparation before generation and distribution begin.

He stressed that reliable electricity will have a direct economic impact. For example, it will make Edo more attractive to businesses and investors.

“This is meaningful to businesses and investors in the state,” he said. Therefore, the industrial park and existing investments around the project area could generate additional opportunities for investment and employment.

As the industrial park expands, more opportunities will open for local indigenes. “With a lot of investment and our industrial park started, more opportunities will be available for the local indigenes to work,” Fan added.

For Governor Okpebholo, the power project forms part of a wider economic plan. The goal is to create an enabling environment for private investment.

Local Employment and Broader Benefits

In addition, the arrangement ensures that Edo participates directly in the long-term economic benefits of strategic infrastructure. Therefore, the state is positioning itself for sustained growth.

Residents of Ologbo have expressed optimism. A local laundry operator, Mr. Imowo Iyip, described the development as “a welcome development.” He recalled years of electricity challenges in the community.

Pastor Friday Johnson, who has lived in the area for more than two decades, remembered periods when residents depended heavily on generators. However, recent improvements have brought relief.

Another resident, Mr. Udok Uwen, called the project “a very good development” for Ologbo and neighbouring communities.
