Police inspector killed at Imo commissioner’s residence in Owerri. Inspector Henry Effiong died while on guard duty at the home of the Imo State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief Barr. Rex Anunobi, in New Owerri.
Effiong was attached to the Imo State Police Command. Unknown assailants attacked him and stole his service rifle, mobile phone and other personal belongings.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 14, 2026, at No. 1 Sokom Villa, Area E, New Owerri. Because the housekeeper, Solomon Uzobu, raised the alarm, the commissioner learned of the situation around 7 a.m. He then contacted the police at about 8 a.m.
The Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri Police Division quickly mobilised officers to the residence. They conducted preliminary investigations at the scene.

A security guard named Genesis, said to be a native of Taraba State, has become a person of interest. He reportedly fled the residence shortly after the incident.
According to the police report, investigators suspect he may have facilitated the assailants’ entry. In addition, he allegedly packed his belongings, switched off his phone and left the area.
