Fubara Rivers Crisis: Wike Says Governor Was Misled and Became the Biggest Loser

Fubara Rivers Crisis

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has blamed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s close associates for the Fubara Rivers Crisis.

Wike said the governor received poor advice from people he trusted. He argued that their influence worsened the political crisis in Rivers State.

Speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike named Edison Ehie, Chijioke Ihunwo, Victor Oko Jumbo, and activist Ankio Briggs. He claimed they played key roles in shaping Fubara’s decisions.

According to Wike, the advisers encouraged Fubara to ignore agreements reached after President Bola Tinubu stepped in to restore peace.

He said the decision prolonged the Fubara Rivers Crisis. He also claimed it blocked efforts to resolve the political dispute.

Wike insisted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara suffered the greatest political losses during the crisis. He said the governor missed several chances to end the conflict.

“I feel for Governor Siminalayi Fubara because he is the biggest loser,” Wike said.

He added, “Edison Ehie, Chijioke Ihunwo, Victor Oko Jumbo, and Ankio Briggs misled Governor Siminalayi Fubara with the advice they gave him.”

Wike also said the governor’s inner circle repeatedly offered poor political guidance. He claimed their actions prevented Fubara from honoring the peace agreement.

The Fubara Rivers Crisis started after Wike and Fubara fell out politically. Fubara had succeeded Wike as Rivers State governor.

The disagreement soon became one of the state’s biggest political battles. It created uncertainty across the government and the political system.

The Federal Government later declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. Authorities also suspended Governor Fubara from office for six months.

Fubara later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, he failed to secure the party’s governorship ticket for another term.

Wike said those setbacks proved that Fubara paid the highest political price during the Fubara Rivers Crisis.

In a recent development, Governor Fubara announced his return to Wike’s political camp. Many observers believe the move could finally bring the Fubara Rivers Crisis to an end.
