Osun Election: Adeleke campaign urges INEC to fix BVAS failures as voters face delays and accreditation problems across several polling units.
The Osun Election has been hit by reports of technical problems with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in several polling units.
The Imole Campaign Council, which supports Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, raised the alarm over the reported failures.
The campaign called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix the problems without delay.
Campaign spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi disclosed the concerns in a statement made available to Naija News.
According to the campaign, voters in several areas have faced long delays because of faulty or slow BVAS machines.
Olajengbesi said the problem was particularly noticeable at Adeleke’s polling unit.
The governor’s polling unit, Unit 009, Ward 02, Agbogunde Sagba, is located in Ede North Local Government Area.
He claimed that the BVAS machines at the unit either malfunctioned or worked very slowly.
The delays reportedly left many voters waiting for hours under the hot sun.
The campaign also cited reports from the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Situation Room.
According to the campaign, the situation room recorded BVAS problems in Egbedore, Ife Central, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ifelodun, Oriade and Ilesa East.
The campaign said some elderly voters struggled to complete facial verification.
It claimed that some machines failed to capture the faces of elderly voters after repeated attempts.
As a result, some affected voters reportedly left the queues without completing accreditation.
The Imole Campaign Council urged INEC to address the reported BVAS failures before voting ends.
The council warned that prolonged technical problems could prevent eligible voters from exercising their rights.
“Anything apart from this is an automatic disenfranchisement,” the campaign said.
It described the situation as unacceptable and a threat to the credibility of the Osun Election.
The campaign also urged election officials to act quickly and ensure that all eligible voters get a fair chance to vote.
With reports of BVAS problems emerging from several areas, attention now turns to INEC and its response to the complaints.
The outcome of the Osun Election will depend not only on the votes cast but also on whether eligible voters can complete the accreditation process without unnecessary barriers.
