President Bola Tinubu has approved a major salary increase for Nigeria’s military personnel. The new pay structure will take effect on September 1. It will benefit about 250,000 members of the armed forces.

The announcement came from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. He disclosed the new salary package in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Tinubu Increases Salary of Armed Forces Personnel by between 30 and 80 percent. The adjustment covers officers and soldiers across different ranks.

Officers above the rank of colonel will receive a 30 percent salary increase. This category includes Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant Generals, and Generals.

Meanwhile, officers from colonel down to warrant officer will enjoy a 50 percent increase. In addition, personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive the highest increase of 80 percent.

The Federal Government said the new salary package reflects its commitment to improving troop welfare. It also recognizes the sacrifices military personnel make while protecting the country.

Furthermore, Onanuga said President Tinubu consistently praises the courage of the armed forces. He noted that troops continue to confront banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism across several parts of Nigeria.

The government also revealed that the new pay structure will significantly increase the military’s annual salary bill. The wage bill will rise from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion each year.

According to the statement, the administration remains committed to supporting military personnel. It stressed that troops deserve better welfare because they protect lives and property across the country.

In addition, the government pledged to modernize the armed forces. It promised to provide improved weapons and advanced technology to strengthen military operations.

President Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to national security. He said no country can achieve lasting progress without peace and stability. Therefore, the government will continue deploying military and law enforcement resources to combat security threats nationwide.

The President urged members of the armed forces to see the salary increase as a sign of the government’s appreciation. He expressed confidence that, together, Nigerians would overcome those threatening the nation’s peace and unity.
