ECOWAS: Nigeria Deploys 86 Troops to Guinea-Bissau Mission

ECOWAS: Nigeria Deploys 86 Troops To Guinea-Bissau as the country strengthens its commitment to regional peace and security. The Nigerian Army sent 86 personnel to support the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission. As a result, Nigeria has reinforced its leadership in promoting stability across West Africa.

The troops serve as Nigerian Company 5 under the regional mission. Afterward, they departed from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja aboard a Nigerian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft. Soon after, they arrived safely in Guinea-Bissau and immediately began their assignment.

The Nigerian Army announced the deployment on its official social media platforms on Saturday. According to the Army, the mission reflects Nigeria’s strong commitment to peacekeeping and regional cooperation. In addition, officials said the operation supports ECOWAS efforts to maintain stability in Guinea-Bissau.

Before departure, Chief of Operations Major General Mayirenso Saraso addressed the troops at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Forward Operating Base in Abuja. Brigadier General M.M. Idris represented him during the ceremony. During the briefing, he urged the soldiers to remain disciplined, professional, and focused throughout the mission.

Military leaders reminded the troops that they represent the Nigerian Army and the nation. Furthermore, they instructed them to respect the laws, customs, and traditions of Guinea-Bissau while carrying out their duties. They also warned them against misconduct, including substance abuse, sexual exploitation, indiscipline, and the misuse of social media.
