Osun Election: Adebayo Alleges Politicisation of Law Enforcement

Osun Election

SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo alleges politicised law enforcement and violence ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun election.

The Osun election has sparked fresh concerns after Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo accused authorities of politicising law enforcement.

Adebayo made the allegation on Thursday during a live interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

According to him, recent events in Osun State raise serious questions about the credibility of elections in Nigeria.

The SDP chieftain pointed to reports of violence ahead of the Osun election.

He warned that the situation could send the wrong signal ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adebayo said the lessons from Osun should not be repeated in 2027. He argued that the country could be heading in the wrong direction if similar issues continue.

“There has been a politicisation of law enforcement,” Adebayo said during the interview.

He also claimed that several forms of unfairness had occurred ahead of the poll.

Adebayo further discussed the SDP’s participation in the Osun election.

He said the party’s governorship candidate was only recognised on Wednesday, August 12.

However, he noted that debates and campaign activities had already taken place.

“From the point of view of the SDP, we just got our governorship candidate recognised only yesterday,” he said.

He added that the necessary electoral activities had already been completed.

The Osun election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Adebayo’s comments have added to the political debate ahead of the poll. However, the allegations remain his claims and were not independently established in the statement provided.
