Dry Season Drive: Okpebholo Takes On-the-Spot Look at Ogheghe, Old Sapele Road Works

Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Sunday carried out an unscheduled inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of Ogheghe Road and Old Sapele Road in Benin City, using the opportunity to urge contractors to quicken the pace of work and make full use of the dry season.

The governor visited the site shortly after attending a church service, explaining that it was important for him to personally see the level of progress on the project. According to him, the dry season offers a narrow window for road construction, making speed and efficiency critical.

He noted that it had been some time since his last visit and said seeing the work firsthand helped him better understand what was happening on the ground. While expressing satisfaction with the quality of construction so far, he stressed that the tempo needed to increase to meet expectations and timelines.

Governor Okpebholo also explained that photographs taken during the inspection were to confirm that the work being carried out aligned with approved specifications.

Reflecting on the origins of the project, the governor recalled that the 4.1-kilometre Ogheghe–Old Sapele Road was initiated in response to serious concerns raised by residents over erosion and flooding. He recounted how the project gained urgency following a tragic incident in which a child was reportedly swept away by floodwaters caused by erosion in the area, underscoring the importance of completing the road to improve safety and protect lives.
