Residents of Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area erupted in celebration as Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the Ramat Park flyover in Benin City, now nearing 90 percent completion.
The atmosphere around the busy axis turned festive as market women, traders, motorists and business owners gathered in large numbers to welcome the governor. Cheers, songs and applause filled the air as many described the flyover as a transformative project set to permanently ease the notorious traffic congestion that has plagued the area for years.
Clearly delighted by the warm reception, Governor Okpebholo thanked residents for their patience and support, noting that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and fulfilling campaign promises. He expressed satisfaction with the pace and standard of work, revealing that only about 10 percent of the construction remains.
According to the governor, the project is expected to be fully completed within the next one or two months, adding that his administration will continue to ensure that contractors adhere strictly to approved standards and timelines. He acknowledged the temporary gridlock caused by the construction but commended residents for their understanding, stressing that the visible progress has strengthened public confidence.
Governor Okpebholo also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting Edo State’s development drive, noting that ongoing infrastructure projects across the state are being made possible through federal backing.
For many residents, the Ramat Park flyover represents more than just a road project. Traders and commuters along the Ikpoba Hill corridor say it will significantly reduce travel time, boost commercial activities and enhance the overall economic outlook of the area. Commercial drivers, who have long battled daily gridlock, expressed optimism that the flyover will bring lasting relief.
Once completed, the Ramat Park flyover is expected to improve traffic flow across Ikpoba Hill and adjoining communities in Benin City, marking a major milestone in Edo State’s urban infrastructure development.
