Celebration as Gov. Okpebholo inspects reconstructed Oba Market as traders celebrate new shops, safer business spaces, and free shop allocation in Edo State.
Residents, traders, and business owners celebrated as Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, inspected the newly reconstructed Oba Market.
The Governor arrived with top government officials and APC leaders from Edo South. The visit brought excitement to the market area. Traders welcomed the team with songs, cheers, and applause.
Among those who joined the inspection were Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, former Deputy Governors Pius Odubu and Lucky Imasuen, former Senator Matthew Urhoghide, and Major General Charles Ehigie Airhiavbere.
The reconstruction project followed the fire outbreak that destroyed the popular market several years ago. However, the new structure has now restored hope to many traders.
Governor Okpebholo thanked traders and market women for their patience during the rebuilding process. He said their support helped contractors complete the project successfully.
In addition, the Governor addressed complaints from traders who are yet to get shop spaces. He explained that the government will first move them into the newly completed section.
He also promised that traders would not pay for shop allocation. According to him, genuine traders and former occupants will receive shops free of charge.
Furthermore, Governor Okpebholo said the government will rebuild another structure behind the market. This project will create more business spaces for traders.
The Governor also announced plans to move traders operating outside into the main market. As a result, they will enjoy safer and more comfortable trading spaces.
He assured former shop owners that they would regain their shops after the full completion of the project.
